Cram Session Reflections
Cram Session Reflections: Spit Jones from Cram Session on Vimeo.
The 1st in a series of mini interviews featuring participants from this year's Cram Session. MC and producer, Spit Jones, sits down with us to talk about his experience at Cram Session over the years.
What is Cram Session
Cram Session is the brainchild of Antioch Alumni founder Unearth, along with Excal and Deadman Walking. After what was supposed to be a 5 song EP written and recorded in a weekend. Many local MCs from Boston, MA came through to the studio and dropped verses and compiled song ideas. By the end of a weekend the end product was 16 tracks, an entire album's worth of material.
Amazingly enough Cram Session has gone on to be one of the most unique events in Hip Hop. 7 years strong, christian MCs from all over the globe will meet at Antioch Alumni's home studio, write raps, laugh, eat, debate, with the end product being an album made available to the public. Cram Session is even video streamed on the internet. Participants are able to interact with fans who log on to spectate some of their favorite artist at work.
The producers who consistently donate beats to the Cram Session, contribute greatly to the final product which has received favorable reviews for 6 consecutive years, much because of the artists who lay down rhymes, but even more because of the beats.
Although music is a large part of the Cram Session, what keeps people coming back and giving beats is the Spirit that permeates the atmosphere of Cram Session. The known and the unknown work together and are treated as equals. Egos are left at the door and God is glorified. What Antioch Alumni has created by God's grace is an environment where weaker MCs are encouraged and helped by more experienced artists. Believers of different maturity levels and theological convicts can discuss their differences without tearing down each other.
Cram Session is a microcosm of the Church living out the gospel through the context of music and in this case, Hip Hop. Join us next year and see for yourself.

After wrapping up up the 7th Cram Session April 2011, we took some time to ask a few questions of some of the participants about their experience. We’ve compiled these mini interviews into Cram Session “Reflections”, a video series where we will release each video along with some goodies leading up to Cram Session 7’s release later this Fall. Be on the lookout at http://thecram.net
Putting the finishing touches on the trailer for “Cram Session Reflections”. We are going to be releasing short interviews with participants from this year’s Cram Session. The idea is to give you, the listeners and those interested in doing the Cram a taste of what Cram Session is and what it means to people. We have MCs who have been coming for 7 years to those who experienced their first Cram Session.
Expect to see new videos on a regular basis at http://thecram.net as well as some additional goodies.
I am looking forward to working in Final Cut X badly. Though I’ve been able to encode my video clips in a format that minimizes rendering, I not have to do a render after every change. This is because of the Cram Session logo I’m using as a watermark. I’m very new to video editing and now I remember why I never really got into it in the first place. It’s time consuming! Hope you guys enjoy the videos.
